Dr. Hope Schuermann (she/her) is a founding faculty member and Program Director of the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program at Eastern Oregon University. She is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and Qualified Supervisor in the state of Florida and has previously held licensure in Louisiana and Texas. Dr. Schuermann earned her Master of Science in Community Counseling from Loyola University New Orleans and her Ph.D. in Counselor Education from the University of Central Florida.
Dr. Schuermann's academic areas of specialization include trauma—particularly trauma in children and disaster-related trauma—as well as pedagogy and supervision within counselor education. Dr. Schuermann’s clinical expertise includes work with children, trauma recovery, and the use of creative and expressive therapeutic approaches. She has authored 25 peer-reviewed publications, co-authored two book chapters, and presented at over 50 international, national, and regional conferences. Her honors include the CORE Journal’s Outstanding Outcome Research Article Award and the Rosser Educator Excellence Award.
